Can you tell us about yourself and your background in nursing?
I started out as a CNA, attained my LPN license and am now a Registered Nurse.
What inspired you to become a nurse?
Working in a nursing home at a young age and then working out of the healthcare field for an extended amount of time made me feel like something was missing in my life. So I went back to the healthcare field and now feel complete.
What are the biggest challenges you face in your role?
The biggest challenges I face in my role is getting the information out to those who need our services in our community who may not be aware of the different clinics we offer.
What do you find most rewarding about being a nurse?
The most rewarding thing about being a nurse is seeing that smile or sense of relief from any of our clients after we are able to provide them with any of our services.
What skills do you think are essential for someone in your profession?
Being passionate, patient and having empathy are must haves for any type of position in nursing.
How do you keep your clinical skills up to date?
Participating in continuous education, competencies, webinars and conferences held throughout the year are how I keep my clinical skills up to date.
How has being a nurse impacted your view of the world?
The world can be cruel, but I see my position as being able to give someone who may be struggling a little peace in life.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in nursing?
You have to be able to interact with a lot of people that come from different backgrounds and races, and judging them should never be done.
What are your favorite ways to unwind after a busy day at work?
Reading a good book helps me unwind after a busy day at work.
Who in your field do you admire most and why?
I have to say that I admire the whole team I work with which includes administration because they are a wealth of knowledge and I know I can count on them when I need help.
Is there a message you would like to share with your fellow nurses during this special week?
Nursing can be tough but hang in there. If you’re like me, making a difference in at least one persons’ life is worth it ??
