For the past 37 years, the Maurice Spear Campus has upheld a cherished tradition of hosting a Christmas party for foster youth in Lenawee County. This annual event is made possible through the dedication of campus staff and the boys and girls in the open unit, offering a unique opportunity for them to give back to others in their community.
The party, which serves children from newborns to 18 years old, is a heartwarming celebration where foster youth receive gifts generously provided by donors from across the county. This year, the holiday spirit reached new heights with a significant contribution from the construction managers and subcontractors involved in the ongoing renovation and expansion project at Maurice Spear Campus.
Touched by the story of the campus's Foster Youth Holiday Drive, several local companies joined the effort, donating an array of gifts, including bikes, tricycles, scooters, games, toys, and sporting goods equipment. The generous contributors included:
- Brint Electric
- Davenport Masonry
- DSP Constructors
- Granger Construction
- Precise Excavating
- Knights of Columbus Irish Hills
- TLC Community Credit Union
- Lenco Credit Union
- McDonalds Inc
- Adrian Breakfast Club
- Tau Delta Sorority
- Barrets Madison Garden Center
- Mary Spok
- Melissa Jacobs
These donations brought smiles to the nine children who attended this year’s party, allowing them to leave with gifts that they could take back to their temporary homes. The event not only celebrated the holiday season but also highlighted the community’s support and compassion for its most vulnerable members.
The Maurice Spear Campus staff and the foster youth are deeply grateful for the ongoing generosity of the Lenawee County community and the remarkable contributions from this year’s new donors. Together, they have made a difference in the lives of children, showing that the spirit of giving is alive and well in Lenawee County.
