Foster Grandparents Program
![]()
The Foster Grandparent Program provides meaningful volunteer placement, 15-30 hours per week, for eligible persons age 60 and over in Lenawee, Monroe and Hillsdale counties, enabling them to render supportive person-to-person services to children under age 21, who have special or exceptional needs. The program offers an excellent opportunity for older persons to share their lifetime of experience with children in need of a supportive relationship. Academic degrees and occupational background are not considered when determining eligibility to be a Foster Grandparent, however income requirements must be met. The program looks for persons who enjoy being with children and have the ability to work with them on a personal level.
For their service, Foster Grandparents receive a $2.65 per hour tax-free stipend, one meal per day, transportation, and an annual physical. The main benefit is the satisfaction Foster Grandparents derive from helping their assigned children to develop. For a full job-description and eligilibilty requirements, click here.
