• The Wellness FAN Club ended in early June, with many Senior Center participants working hard to complete commitment cards of 20 miles, 10 center activities and 15 center meals. This program was followed by the annual Senior Picnic on Wednesday, June 10th at Island Park in Adrian. Displays from more than 30 health care organizations, including free health screenings by Promedica, brought over 400 people to the picnic despite a short rain shower. Lynwood Manor hosted bingo in the morning. A delicious lunch was served, including a turkey sub, fire roasted corn salad, fresh fruit, baked chips, a cookie and yogurt. After lunch, Perry Cisco played "the bones", followed by the fabulous Matt Walch - "Singing the Standards". Check out the photos below to see what a good time was had by all. We look forward to another great picnic next year!
• In April, the Department on Aging honored the multitude of people who volunteer their time in so many wonderful ways. Using the theme that "Volunteers are the Real Thing", the banquet featured an overwhelming amount of Coca-Cola decorations, most of them on loan from Department staff member Kathy DeCatur's personal collection. The volunteers were treated to a great meal catered by Department on Aging Nutrition Director, Judy Zilke. Volunteers that were recognized included those who drive older adults to medical appointments, help complete federal and state tax forms, provide respite care, counsel seniors with Medicare and Medicaid issues, help build ramps for those in need, organize the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren support group, and those who are part of the Department on Aging Board of Directors. All volunteers received a lunch cooler as a thank you for their time and dedication. Below are some photos from the banquet.
